EAST LANSING—No. 16 Michigan State will finish its weekend road trip on Sunday as they travel to South Carolina to take on undefeated Clemson (4-0).
The Spartans will look to get back in the win column after falling to No. 19 Tennessee 4-3 on Friday evening in Knoxville, making it two straight losses after last week’s loss against No. 2 TCU 4-1.
The team’s three points came from wins by junior Ozan Baris winning in a three-set thriller, freshman Matthew Forbes also winning in three sets, and junior David Saye winning in straight sets 6-4 and 6-1.
MSU fell just short in the doubles as their only win came from Forbes and Vuk Radjenovic won their matchup against Tennessee’s James Newton and Jan Kobierski 6-3.
Senior Max Sheldon, who won his first three singles matches of the season, lost in two straight sets to Tennessee’s Shunsuke Mitsui 6-4 and 6-4. He’ll be looking to bounce back in Clemson on Sunday afternoon.
For the Tigers, they come into this matchup as an undefeated 4-0 team, winning their first four matches against ETSU, Citadel, Memphis, and FAU. With their first big test at home against the Spartans, they’ll look to defend their home court and keep their undefeated record.
The biggest test for MSU will be freshman Viktor Markov, who lost his first singles matchup and doubles match against FAU last weekend and will be looking to bounce back. He previously won his first three singles matches and two doubles matches.
MSU and Clemson will face off on Sunday at noon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, South Carolina.
