On March 6, 2026, 18-year-old underground artist Slayr released the deluxe version of his album Half Blood. Despite being a deluxe, it contained ten cohesive tracks, with amazing transitions, making it feel like a completely new album. One of those tracks is “Toxic,” which is shaping up to be the most popular off the deluxe, and it’s easy to see why.

The track is an almost perfect synthesis of the current underground sounds, with over-the-top production featuring hints of rage rap and hyperpop. It only takes mere seconds into the track to see this, with Slayr’s screaming adlibs over a beat driven by a Miku-esque vocal chop. He screams “Jump out the motherfuckin’ coupe,” a reference to Playboi Carti’s unreleased song “Jump out the coupe,” which features the same drum patterns as “Toxic.”

 The lyricism is also very current, being light-hearted and full of references, such as the lines “If I told you more than four times, bingo,” “This will probably never drop like Yandhi”, and “She wan’ find me like the One Piece, yeah”.

Slayr comes off strong about his newfound fame, saying, “I made a killing, I really did it,” and goes after his haters here as well. Slayr himself has started becoming a sort of meme on Instagram and other social media platforms, with people dubbing his music as “burger music.” Burger music is a recently coined term that essentially is another way of calling a song bad or cringey. One common assertion from his haters is that he makes Minecraft YouTuber outro music.

Another thing the internet is harping on regarding the young artist is his weight, saying that they can’t take him seriously because of it. He responds to this jokingly with “I’m the best fat boy rapping” and “negative-negative aura, let’s pack it.” It’s said that all publicity is good publicity, and I feel that is definitely true here, as the memes have undoubtedly contributed to his recent success, going from 478,000 monthly listeners when the deluxe came out, compared to 923,400 now at the time of writing, and it’s bound to go up further.

The main theme of the song is seen in its title Toxic. Slayr seems to be in a toxic relationship with a girl, but he doesn’t seem to mind, as he proudly exclaims:
