EAST LANSING— Michigan State women’s tennis hits the road this weekend, heading West for its opening dual match of the season against Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington this Friday night.
Last weekend Michigan State sent two Spartans to compete at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor Michigan. The Spartans sent freshman Amara Brahmbhatt and redshirt sophomore Hanna Tsitavets to Ann Arbor.
Brahmbhatt dominated her match against Michigan’s Bayley Sheinin, beating her 6-4 and then 6-2 in her match. Tsitavets also went up against Michigan player Ava Bruno, but Tsitavets lost her match 6-2.
On day two the Spartans continued in doubles against the Texas Tech duo of freshman Elena Daskalova and junior Arina Oreshchenkova. The Spartan pair put up a good effort against the Texas Tech duo, but it wasn’t enough to end the day with a win.
Brahmbhatt earned herself another victory against Eastern Michigan’s Marta Komar winning the match 6-1,6-2. If the Spartans want to beat Gonzaga on Friday, they will need Brahmbhatt and her momentum from last weekend on Friday against the Bulldogs.
This will be Gonzaga’s first match since November when they competed in the Watanabe Classic. Sophomore Emily Robertson stole the show for Gonzaga as she was the singles main draw.
On that Sunday of the tournament the Bulldogs were 3-0 in doubles and 5-2 in singles. Robertson defeated Utah’s Emily Kamper in a thrilling final match,7-5,6-3.
MSU and Gonzaga will match up on Friday at 7 p.m., in Spokane, Washington.
