EAST LANSING- Michigan State volleyball hosts the No.10 Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, Oct. 31, aiming to end their current losing streak.
Spartans’ volleyball has come up short in the last two games, most recently losing to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in three sets. This loss dropped their record to 15-5 and 5-5 in Big Ten play.
Going into this game, Purdue seeks to continue their momentum with them currently being on a four-game winning streak. The Boilermakers have a 17-3 overall record and an 8-2 conference record, currently ranking second in the Big Ten.
In this Halloween matchup, the Green and White must look for Purdue junior outside hitter Kenna Wollard. Wollard has put up an impressive 352 kills this season which ranks her among some of the best outside hitters in the nation. On the defensive side, the Boilermaker sophomore defensive specialist Ryan McAleer is the team leader in digs with 273.
Additionally, Purdue volleyball is undefeated so far this season in away games which puts the pressure on the hosting Spartans.
Even though the Boilermakers have several advantages going into the upcoming game, MSU also has the upper hand in a few areas. The Spartans have a 9-1 record at home and lead Purdue in overall aces this season. Michigan State also has notable players like junior outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska, who has notched 225 kills this season and junior defensive specialist/libero Lia Schneider leading the Spartans with 194 digs.
Ahead of the matchup this Friday both respective teams look to make a statement. Michigan State on one hand needs to break their current two-game losing streak while Purdue is attempting to turn their winning streak from four to five after this matchup.
The game will be held this Friday, Oct. 31, at the Breslin Center with a start time of 7 p.m. ET.
