EAST LANSING – Michigan State men’s soccer travels to the west coast to take on the Washington Huskies on Friday. The Spartans are coming off of a 3-2 win against Oakland on Monday.
This will be the first Big Ten matchup of the season for both squads, who last met on Sept. 13, 2024. Spartans’ defender Brandon Munson had a remarkable bicycle kick save that sealed an MSU victory.
Washington comes in sharp, without a loss since Aug. 24.
A few Spartans to watch out for in this match are junior midfielder Miles Merritt and freshman midfielder Luke Spadafora, who are tied as Michigan State’s top goal scorers with two each.
Also, keep an eye out for freshman midfielder Peter Soudan. Soudan netted his first collegiate goal against Oakland and looks to have another good performance against the Huskies.
Washington sophomore midfielder Zach Ramsey is the player MSU needs to focus on. Ramsey is the Huskies’ top goal scorer and leads the squad in points. Washington’s assist leader, senior midfielder Richie Aman is another player the Spartans should key in on. Aman recorded two assists in his last outing and is a threat to do the same tomorrow.
This will be a tough test for the Green and White, as they’re winless on the road this season, and Washington is unbeaten at home.
Michigan State looks to improve upon its 3-2 record on the season, while Washington is 2-2-2 so far. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12 at Husky Soccer Stadium.
