Michigan State women’s cross country clinches second straight B1G title

MADISON, WIS. – On Friday, Oct. 27, the Michigan State women’s cross country team traveled to Madison to compete in the Big Ten Championship.

This goal became reality when the Spartans scored 46 points to clinch the title. Michigan State beat out second place Wisconsin, scoring 81 points. Followed by third place rivals Michigan after scoring 102 points.

The morning was gray and rainy leading up to the race. The women competed in the 6k race that started at 12:45 p.m. A total of 154 participated in the race coming from 14 schools.

All five scorers placed in the top-15, led by third place runner Makenna Veen recording a 21:01.1 time, and Katie Osika, running a 21:05.1 to earn fourth place. Lauren Freeland placed 10th running a 21:26.6 race. To finish out the scorers, Grace Molloy and Emily Bardwell ran a 21:38.4 and 21:39.6 to place 14th and 15th respectively. Displacer Eleanor Kendell had an impressive race, running a 21:42.1 to earn herself a 17th place finish. The final displacement runner had a time of 22:11.5 with a 38th place finish.

With impressive performances, Makeena Veen and Katie Oskia received First Team All-Big Ten honors. Lauren Freeland and Grace Molloy also received Second Team All-Big Ten Honors for their placements.

The Spartans will travel back to Madison, Wisconsin for the third time this season on Nov. 10 to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet.
