No. 10 Illinois upsets No. 7 MSU women’s basketball in Big Ten Tournament
Illinois held the ball with a 71-69 lead with 31 seconds remaining and just a one-second difference between the shot clock and game clock. Michigan State needed the ball back for a chance at victory. Junior guard Rashunda Jones jumped the pass, secured the steal, and was fouled to the ground as the clock hit 19 seconds — the Spartans had their chance. The ball went to senior forward Grace VanSlooten for the final shot. She fought through contact, nearly lost the ball, and went up, but the attempt did not hit the rim. The loose ball pinballed around the court before going out of bounds off the Illini. MSU gained another opportunity with nine seconds left, but a pass from redshirt sophomore guard Kennedy Blair sailed out of bounds past senior guard Jalyn Brown — sealing the game. After failing to convert on multiple chances to tie the game, the No. 7 seed Spartans fell to No. 10 seed Illinois 71-69 in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament, marking their third straight appearance without a win.
Wharton Center announces 2026-2027 Broadway season
Wharton Center announced its 2026-2027 Broadway season on Mar. 3, featuring both old and new shows, bringing a diverse lineup to MSU. The goal: offer something for everyone – familiar titles, adaptations, comedies, and more serious productions. Of the eight shows coming to Wharton, six are offered in a Broadway series package that patrons can purchase before the season starts. The other two are “special events” that come to Wharton for one weekend only. By purchasing all six shows, patrons receive significant discounts, secure their seats in advance, and renew those same seats year after year. For the other two shows that aren’t a part of the package, subscribers can get early access to them and then have those added to their package. Wharton Broadway marketing and PR manager Tara Peplowski said information about Broadway season packages can be found at the Wharton Season website.

Lansing celebrates 7th annual ‘Brrs, Beards, & Brews: A Lumberjack Festival’
Filled with events like beard contests and the ‘Feats of Strength’ competition, the 7th annual ‘Brrs, Beards, & Brews: A Lumberjack Festival’ attracted attendees from all over. The festival took place in Old Town Lansing on Saturday, Mar. 8. Executive Director of the Old Town Commercial Association James Lenon said the event aims to bring the Lansing community together. “…The lumberjack festival is really just a human, community-organized event to bring people into the Old Town district, to kind of showcase our spaces here and just have a good time in a really weird, quirky way that Old Town knows how to do really well,” Lenon said. “It also plays on some of the historical background to the lumber industry that Old Town Lansing has, and Lansing has as a whole. So it kind of dips into that historical educational side of things that we like to kind of lean on here in Old Town as well.” The festival, Lenon said, kicks off the spring season in the community. The festival included events like a beard makeover by Loyalty Barbershop, the ‘Feats of Strength’ competition and the ‘Least Professional Beard’ competition.
