VanSlooten becomes the ninth Spartan ever drafted in the WNBA Draft
Four years, two teams, and 126 games later, all the hard work on the hardwood has paid off for senior forward Grace VanSlooten. With the ninth pick in the third round of the 2026 WNBA Draft, the Seattle Storm selected VanSlooten, making her the ninth Michigan State women’s basketball player ever selected in the draft and the first since 2017. The former five-star prospect spent her first two seasons at Oregon before transferring to MSU, putting her trust in head coach Robyn Fralick, who had just finished her first season in East Lansing. From that point on, VanSlooten became the team’s offensive anchor over the past two years, helping Fralick not only rebuild the program but also take it to new heights. She scored 962 points for the Spartans — bringing her career total to 1,849 — and led the team in scoring both years. She also became a better all-around player, earning All-Big Ten second team honors in both seasons.
Donor illegally sought to keep tabs on Tucker investigation, Brenda Tracy says
Brenda Tracy, the rape survivor and advocate who was sexually harassed by former Michigan State University football coach Mel Tucker, is alleging that United Wholesale Mortgage CEO Mat Ishbia used his influence at MSU to keep tabs on the university’s confidential investigation into her sexual harassment complaint against Tucker. At the center of the lawsuit, which was filed March 23 in Oakland County Circuit Court, is Tracy’s allegation that General Counsel for United Wholesale Mortgage David Zacks was privy to communications regarding the probe without Tracy’s knowledge. Zacks’ involvement, the suit argues, demonstrates how a long-time donor, who played a large role in MSU offering Tucker a pricey extension contract, sought to use his influence at MSU for “reputation management” and to develop a “media strategy” amid the internal probe into Tucker. The suit names Ishbia and United Wholesale Mortgage as defendants. Tracy is seeking a jury trial and damages exceeding $25,000.
Cullen Potter commits to MSU hockey out of transfer portal
According to multiple reports, future junior forward Cullen Potter has committed to the Michigan State hockey program for the 2026-27 season, transferring from Arizona State University. Potter played just 24 games of the 2025-26 season after suffering an upper-body/shoulder injury due to a hit on Jan. 10. He finished the season with 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) before undergoing surgery. He is a consistent scorer. Potter is a first-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames (32nd overall in 2025) and a product of the U.S. National Development Team Program (NDTP). He was originally committed to attend MSU but flipped his commitment to ASU in May 2024 when MSU did not have a roster spot for him in the 2024-25 season. Potter entered college following a 46-point season in 54 games on the U-17 team, while most players spend two years with the NDTP.
