Spartans’ Fears Jr. leads scoring run to advance past Indiana
EAST LANSING– No. 12 Michigan State vaulted over the Indiana Hoosiers with a 28-2 run in the second half to secure the 81-60 victory. Spartans guard Jeremy Fears Jr. was the star; he had a career-high 23 points to go along with 10 assists for his double-double of the season. MSU head coach Tom Izzo was impressed with Fears Jr. and his continued development at the point guard position. “I thought Jeremy did a heck of a job, both defensively and offensively,” Izzo said. The Spartans got out to a slow start. Fears Jr. was the only player to produce, even as he scored the first ten points; Indiana had a 17-10 lead. The Spartans held Hoosier sharpshooter Lamar Wilkerson to a quiet first half before he erupted in the second half, making MSU pay for careless turnovers as they were turned into three-pointers on the other end. Spartans junior forward Coen Carr was a lockdown primary defender on Wilkerson, and Izzo approved of his output. “I thought his preparation, his film study, the things he wanted to cover, I thought he was phenomenal,” Izzo said
CHAARG and UAB start the semester with ‘Claw Clips and Soda Sips
Taking charge of the new semester and its opportunities, Michigan State’s women’s workout group, CHAARG, collaborated with the University Activities Board (UAB) to host a “Claw Clips and Soda Sips” event on Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Union Ballroom, drawing a crowd of more than 250 students. The third collaborative event between the two organizations supplied attendees with different colored claw clips, decorating supplies such as beads, charms, and markers, coloring pages, and a dirty soda bar. CHAARG also had a booth at the event for attendees to learn more about the club. The goal of the partnership was to help promote both groups. CHAARG’s mission is to help girls get more comfortable in the gym, in their bodies, learn new ways to work out, get more involved on campus, and meet new people.
MSU Museum’s reopening exhibit explores AI’s impact on reality perception
On Jan. 14, the MSU Museum opened its doors for the first time in 18 months after undergoing renovations. Founded in 1857, the museum had a mission of inspiring curiosity and connecting the university to the wider world. In its grand reopening, a new exhibit called “Blurred Realities” invites visitors to explore misinformation through various lenses. The exhibit is part of the museum’s innovation unit, CoLab. With eight displays featured, it is the result of an open call in which 241 submissions from 32 countries were received. Its goal is to demonstrate how our perception of the truth can be altered, primarily focusing on different manifestations and implementations of artificial intelligence. “I hope this causes (visitors) to think more critically about information,” MSU Museum director of marketing and communications Stephanie Palagyi said. “You should not just take everything at face value.”
