EAST LANSING- It’s Selection Monday for the NCAA women’s soccer teams, and Michigan State has earned the No. 2 seed in the Stanford region, the highest placement in program history.
The Green and White battled through a double overtime and fell to Washington in a shootout in the Big Ten Tournament finale. The Huskies earned an automatic bid to the College Cup. The Spartans’ win over UCLA in the Big Ten semifinals marked the 300th win in head coach Jeff Hosler’s career.
Michigan State earned its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance after it secured back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
The Spartans host Milwaukee, a squad that won the Horizon League championships, on Friday at 6 p.m. The last time these two teams met was in August, and the Spartans dominated with a 9-0 shutout.
If the Spartans advance, they will face either No. 7 Wake Forest or South Carolina. The last time they faced Wake Forest was in 2017, with a 4-1loss, and they have not faced South Carolina in the past years.
