Recording secretary for LMRC Michael Frezell said the club itself has existed for decades. This event, Frezell said, serves as a fundraiser for the club, with this year being the 50th year. Since its start, Frezell said the event has grown tremendously. Frezell said there are now “3,000 people or more” attending the event, along with many different vendors from all over.
Former MSU softball coach follows her lifelong passion for teaching
When Dr. Dianne Ulibarri walked onto the Michigan State University campus in 1975, she carried with her not just the ambition of a young softball coach, but also a vision for what women’s sports could become. In 1975, Ulibarri joined Michigan State University, taking on coaching duties for field hockey in the fall and softball in the spring. The challenges were immediate and concrete: limited funding, little institutional support and teams that often had to travel long distances on their own. Despite the hurdles, her teams excelled under her guidance. In 1976, Ulibarri’s softball team won the AIAW-ASA National Tournament, marking a defining moment for women’s athletics at MSU. The following year, they returned to the national stage and placed third in the country.
Four Spartans in double figures power 92-60 MSU victory
Late in the second quarter, senior guard Emma Shumate punched the floor in frustration after failing to secure a loose ball before it rolled out of bounds. Her visible anger, despite her team holding a comfortable lead, embodied the defensive intensity that Michigan State women’s basketball head coach Robyn Fralick demands from her squad. An aggressive, ball-hawking defense turned a 19-15 first-quarter lead for the No. 23 Spartans into a 92-60 win, securing its second victory of the season by taking down Eastern Michigan.
