Black Student Alliance demands action from MSU regarding DEI regulation changes
Black Student Alliance (BSA) President Jayanti Collins explained in a press conference on Tuesday that BSA will not back down in their attempts to meet with the president to discuss the CORES&CAMS budget cuts and the University’s requirement for clubs to edit their mission statements in compliance with federal Civil Rights Regulations. In response to these regulations, which were only delivered by mouth to them, BSA attempted to meet with President Kevin Guskiewicz for further clarification; however, none of their attempts have been successful. After rising frustration, the organization released a statement on their instagram demanding public acknowledgement from Guskiewicz and MSU leadership of the ‘harm these changes are causing’ to identity-based organizations. They also demanded a formal, written document clearly outlining all DEIB-related changes that impact RSOs, and a meeting with Guskiewicz by the end of October.
MSU hosts Big Ten meet amid NCAA roster limit shift
This Friday, Michigan State Cross Country will host the Big Ten Championship, but new NCAA rules have left the team with fewer roster spots than in the past. In June, the NCAA settled a lawsuit that introduced revenue sharing across college athletics. As part of the settlement, the NCAA also implemented a new model for how teams form rosters in all sports. Previously, the organization had not set widespread roster limits outside of football and basketball. Instead, only scholarship limits were in place, allowing walk-ons to fill out the rest of the roster. Now, the NCAA has enacted roster limits for all varsity sports with zero restrictions on scholarships. These roster limits left the team shifting from 81 student-athletes in 2024 to 49 in 2025.
Off-campus students struggle with “porch pirates”
In early September, Michigan State University students living at the Trowbridge Lofts apartment building decided they’d had enough: something needed to be done about their vanishing packages. Their presumably stolen goods varied in value and use, ranging from a $10 charging cable to an order of clothes from the online marketplace SHEIN and even flavored syrup for making cocktails. At Trowbridge Lofts, operated by DTN Management, most packages are placed on a shelf inside the building’s vestibule, which is unlocked at all hours of the day and visible from outside.Mechanical engineering junior October Marquez is one of the Trowbridge Lofts residents who signed the petition to “change the mailroom system” after one of her packages, an order of socks, was stolen.
No Kings protests held in Detroit and across the country
