EAST LANSING- Michigan State volleyball hosts the No. 1 Nebraska Cornhuskers this Friday at the Breslin Center, looking to keep their hot streak alive.
Spartans’ volleyball has won the last two games, most recently defeating the University of Indiana in three sets. This win improved their record to 14-2 and 4-2 in conference play.
Based on national rankings, the Cornhuskers will be MSU’s toughest challenge yet this season. The Cornhuskers are undefeated this season with a 16-0 record, defeating their last seven opponents in only 3 sets.
Nebraska is led by Michigan native junior outside hitter Harper Murray leads the team with 186 kills. Other notable players on the team include junior setter Bergen Reilly, who leads their team in assists with 474 and sophomore defensive specialist/libero Olivia Mauch with 154 digs.
As impressive as the University of Nebraska looks going into this game, Spartans’ volleyball isn’t a squad that should be brushed off. The Green and White have more total kill, assists, aces, and digs going into Friday’s game.
Additionally, you can’t forget to mention junior outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska who has racked the most kills on the team this season with 168. Nebraska must also look out for senior opposite hitter Evie Doezema who has amassed 154 kills this season along with recent Big Ten Freshman of the Week Malayah Long. The redshirt freshman setter Long is third in the Big Ten in total assists with a notable 617.
MSU volleyball is undefeated at home so far this season with an 8-0 record, which gives them the advantage this Friday at the Breslin. Last time these two teams faced off was on Oct. 18, 2024, with Nebraska prevailing over MSU in 3 three sets. The Spartans have very few wins in their history against the Cornhuskers and have a currently long losing streak they are hoping to snap in this upcoming game.
Michigan State and Nebraska are both looking to continue their winning streaks going into Friday. Odds are this will be the most difficult matchup the Spartans have had so far this season. The match will be held this Friday at the Breslin Center with a start time of 7 p.m. ET.
