EAST LANSING- After a 42-40 double overtime victory against Boston College, Michigan State junior quarterback Aidan Chiles was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and junior linebacker Jordan Hall was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Chiles had his career-best performance at Spartan Stadium on Saturday night. He went 19-29 for 231 passing yards, throwing four touchdowns with a three-yard rushing touchdown of his own.
The quarterback was a threat to the Eagles’ defense on the ground, with 12 carries for 39 total yards. Chiles earned multiple first downs for the Spartan offense and created opportunities on dead drives.
Two of Chiles’ touchdowns were to sophomore wide receiver Nick Marsh, the first for 11-yards, the second for 41-yards. Michigan State senior wide receiver Omari Kelly caught Chiles’ pass on the two-point conversion in double overtime to walk it off for the Spartans.
Chiles’ Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award marks his first career Big Ten weekly honor.
Linebacker Jordan Hall had another stellar performance after the season opener against Western Michigan. Hall recorded a career-high 15 tackles and nine solo stops in the win over Boston College.
Hall forced a crucial fumble at the one-yard line, following a Michigan State turnover on a punt return. The Spartans cashed in on the fumble forced by Hall, as it led to an MSU touchdown.
Hall’s 23 tackles rank first on the team and fourth in the Big Ten. The awards for Chiles and Hall mark the first time MSU has had both Big Ten Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in the same game since 2010.
Michigan State will face off against Youngstown State at Spartan Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Tune in to the live broadcast featuring Jacob Maurer and Kyle Keegan locally on 88.9 FM or at https://impact89fm.org/
