EAST LANSING – The Big Ten announced their selections for the postseason All-Big Ten awards on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman defenseman Artyom Levshunov and freshman goaltender Trey Augustine led the selections for the Spartans.
Levshunov earned four postseason awards, being named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Levshunov was also selected to the All-Big Ten First Team and All-Freshman Team.
Augustine joined Levshunov on the All-Freshman team and earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors.
In addition to the selections, sophomore forwards Karsen Dorwart, Issac Howard, and Joey Larson earned spots on the Honorable Mention team. 5th year senior Nicolas Muller was also named the team’s recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
“With the team success comes individual success,” said MSU head coach Adam Nightingale. “We are super excited for the guys that both won awards and were honorable mention. What I enjoy most about them is that it is never about themselves, but rather, the team.”
Nightingale was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, giving the Spartans three major award winners for the season.
The Spartans won their first Big Ten regular season title in program history this season under the helm of Nightingale.
MSU will play for its first Big Ten Tournament Championship this Saturday against No. 11 Michigan at Munn Ice Arena.
