Jack Hoiberg finds new home in UTA

EAST LANSING — On Wednesday afternoon, former Spartan guard Jack Hoiberg announced where he would be spending the next chapter of his college basketball career when he committed to the University of Texas at Arlington.
The UTA Mavericks, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, finished the 2020-21 season with a 13-13 record overall while going 9-8 in conference play. They fell to Troy in the opening round of the Sun Belt conference tournament.
While at Michigan State, Hoiberg appeared in 15 games in his last season for the Spartans, averaging 0.5 points and three minutes per game. During perhaps the Spartan’s best victory of the season over rival Michigan, Hoiberg played several, crucial, first-half minutes of good basketball, including forcing Big Ten Freshman of the Year Hunter Dickinson to pick up his third foul early in the contest.
Over his career, he appeared in 42 total games, scored 36 points, and started against Nebraska who is coached by his father, Fred, back in February of 2020. His best game was when he scored four points and dished out a career-high six assists against Western Michigan in 13 minutes of action on Dec. 29, 2020.
Hoiberg joined Michigan State in the 2017-18 season as a walk-on. However, prior to the 2020-21 campaign, Tom Izzo awarded him a scholarship position.
Hoiberg joins the Mavericks looking to contribute right away, as the guard is eligible for two more seasons of college hoops.
He becomes the first former Spartan from this past year’s team to announce his new destination.
