EAST LANSING — On Friday, the Michigan State Athletic Department announced the results of the 1,477 COVID-19 PCR tests that were conducted from Jan. 28 through Feb. 4. In total, 1,101 tests were given to student-athletes, and only two came back positive. The remaining 376 tests were administered on staff members, with five positive results.

The two student-athlete positives marks a number that is down from last week’s results, where there were five student-athletes to test positive. The staff has had an increase by two however, as only three members tested positive last week.

Teams currently undergoing daily antigen testing are men’s basketball, women’s basketball, hockey, volleyball and wrestling. Teams that are currently being tested weekly are men’s and women’s diving, men’s and women’s indoor track, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and gymnastics.

In accordance with Big Ten conference rules, the student-athletes and staff members who tested positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate themselves from their team. Before returning to team activities, those who tested positive will have to go through further testing by a medical staff member, and also check in daily with their athletic trainer.

More information about the university’s testing can be found on Michigan State’s COVID-19 testing and reporting database.
