Lacie Hudson, Case deKoning

An inmate by the name of Michael David McKerchie escaped Ingham County Jail early Friday morning

He has been in jail since Sept. 21 and was jailed for Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile at Dunkin’ Donuts in Okemos, Michigan.

McKerchie was also charged for reckless driving causing serious impairment, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and restricting and obstructing arrest.

His bond is set at $250,000 for these charges.

It was discovered upon closer examination that McKerchie had dismantled a mattress and used the padding to simulate his sleeping body. He then disassembled a daylight window and the angle iron that was used to frame it in order to escape.

The authorities encourage anyone with information on McKerchie’s whereabouts to call 911.

Beginning today, Sparrow Health System patients will now be required to receive a test order though a qualified medical provider or the MySparrow app prior to being administered a COVID-19 test, according to a release Friday.

This comes following an extraordinary demand for tests and seeks to result in a more efficient and faster process, which allows Sparrow to better monitor volumes and speed up waiting lines.

Currently, patients who had not received test orders in advance are required to provide the information or go to the app as they wait, delaying the process, according to the release. The new system will require those without an order to return only after they have received one.

However, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
