EAST LANSING- Michigan State volleyball travels to Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday to take on the No. 1 Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The Spartans picked up their most recent win against the Maryland Terrapins, winning in five sets improving their record to 15-3 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
This matchup will be the second of a back-to-back game weekend as MSU volleyball takes on the Iowa Hawkeyes Friday, Oct. 24.
Regardless of the outcome of the game against Iowa, the Spartans will be looking to gain their biggest win of the season against the Cornhuskers, a team that’s already outlasted them earlier this season.
The last time these teams faced off was on Oct. 17 with the Green and the White fell in 3 sets.
Nebraska is on a 9-game streak of winning in 3 sets and has an overall record of 18-0.
The Cornhuskers are nothing short of a dominant team, but that doesn’t mean that the Spartans should be counted out going into Saturday’s game.
MSU still has a positive 5-2 record on the road and has multiple advantages over the opposing team. Michigan State still has more kills, assists, aces, and digs than the Cornhuskers.
The Spartans are led by junior outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska, who has notched 235 points this season. Standing out defensively are junior defensive specialist/libero Lia Schneider leading the team in digs with 179 and junior middle blocker Zuzanna Kulig who has amassed 49 blocks this season.
Going into the game this Saturday, Michigan State is hoping to snap Nebraska’s undefeated streak this season while the Cornhusker fight to keep it alive. Winning this game will give the Spartans great momentum and will have them feeling strong after falling short to Nebraska earlier this season. The game will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center with a start time of 8:30 p.m.
