MSU community celebrates Spartan spirit at Homecoming Parade
Community members, children, furry friends, Michigan State University students and alumni alike gathered to watch the MSU Homecoming Parade on October 10th. The parade started its route on Abbot Road near the East Lansing Hannah Community Center and snaked its way down Grand River and onto campus, ending on Farm Lane at the Red Cedar Bridge. The parade was filled with floats from different MSU/Lansing-area organizations. Alumni of all ages attend the homecoming celebration with friends and family.
MSU Volleyball weather a late Iowa comeback to clinch a five-set victory
In a game against Iowa, the Spartans took control early, powered by a balanced offense and steady serving in the opening two sets. Evie Doezema and Carmen Waye formed a sturdy wall at the net, combining for four blocks and 20 kills, helping the Spartans hit an impressive .293 overall for the match. MSU cruised through the first two sets, 25–20 and 25–15. But the Iowa Hawkeyes clawed back. Led by Carmel Vares (13 kills) and Chard’e Vanzandt (12 kills), Iowa capitalized on Michigan State’s errors to steal a tight third set, 25–23. The momentum continued in the fourth, as the Hawkeyes took advantage of miscommunications on MSU’s side to claim the frame, 25–21, tying the match at two sets apiece. In the fifth set, The Spartans closed the door with a 15–7 win, punctuated by a final kill from Doezema off a Long assist.
MSU says no ICE activity on campus
Michigan State University’s Department of Police and Public Safety says it has received no information indicating Immigration and Customs Enforcement is present on campus. Spokesperson Nadia Vizueta said Thursday that MSU has not been notified of ICE activity at the university and has not received reports beyond general rumors. Several student organizations — including Sunrise and MSU Democrats — circulated advisories urging students to be cautious and to look out for one another. Each noted they had not confirmed ICE’s presence or activities on the MSU campus.
MSU football stunned by UCLA in homecoming blowout
The UCLA Bruins, hot off an upset victory over No. 7 Penn State last weekend, entered Spartan Stadium and rained on the Spartans’ Homecoming parade as they scored 38 unanswered points to defeat MSU 38-13. Hopes were high for the Green and White heading into this game; MSU looked to earn its first conference victory against a 1-4 UCLA team.
