Impact Mixtape | “Black Artists Making Waves in Asia” by Ashe Burr

The impact that black artists have had on the international music scene is immense. From the jazz influences in 1980s Japanese city pop to the hip hop twinge that has made K-Pop as popular as it is, Asian music has drawn a large inspiration from the legacy of black artists.

As the world becomes more and more interconnected, more artists are making waves in scenes that were previously inhospitable to them. Since the 2000s, there has been an increase in the impact of black artists domestically across Asia. From the Philippines to Saudi Arabia, from Kazakhstan to Thailand, from Saudi Arabia to Mongolia and everywhere in between, we salute these artists who are making their mark across the Asian music scenes.
