Michigan State women’s basketball coach Suzy Merchant released a statement on Tuesday evening for the first time after being involved in a minor single-car accident on Jan. 28.

Merchant stated that she wished to focus on her health and well-being for the time being. Merchant is committed to getting her health back to 100% and is looking forward to returning to the team.

Merchant showed gratitude for the support and well wishes that have been sent her way while she has been recovering at home.

The Spartans have now played three games without Merchant, and with Associate Head Coach, Dean Lockwood serving as interim coach.

After Sunday’s 77-67 loss to in-state rivals, Michigan, the team heads to Wisconsin this week for a Wednesday night matchup against the Badgers, with Lockwood still leading the Spartans.
