EAST LANSING, Mich—After entering the transfer portal on Dec, 20, former Michigan State linebacker Cole DeMarzo announced that he would be transferring to Wyoming on Saturday morning.

DeMarzo, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound linebacker, appeared in one game for the Spartans this season, against Rutgers on Oct. 9, and registered a tackle. It was the only game he appeared in during his two seasons in East Lansing after redshirting the 2020 season.

He played his high school football at Hilton Head High School, located in South Carolina. As a senior, he recorded 102 tackles, including eight tackles for loss, and three sacks. DeMarzo also was featured prominently as a receiver, hauling in 36 catches for 663 yards and two touchdowns.

As a recruit, DeMarzo was rated as a three star by 247Sports in 2020. He was rated as the No. 24 overall recruit in South Carolina and the No. 92 overall outside linebacker prospect within the 2020 recruiting class.

MSU was the only Power Five offer that DeMarzo received; other mid-major offers included Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Army, Appalachian State, Eastern Kentucky, Marshall and Toledo.

DeMarzo is the sixth Spartan to find a new home after entering the transfer portal. He follows cornerback Kalon Gervin (Kansas), linebacker Chase Kline (Eastern Michigan), safety Michael Dowell (Pittsburgh), defensive tackle Kyle King (Ball State) and defensive end Tyson Watson (UMass). Watson announced his transfer destination on Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans still have 11 overall players, and 10 scholarship players, in the portal, including wide receiver Ricky White and tight end Trenton Gillison.
