The Local Catch with Sandkings

So there I was, standing in the back of a cramped warehouse in the middle of Grand Rapids watching a guy in a collared shirt yell into an old-school telephone-turned-mic contraption in imperfect unison with the music behind him. It is needless to say that my first experience catching a Sandkings set was very cool.

The three-piece have found the happy medium of surf-punk, combining the right amount of early 1960s twang with raw, lo-fi vocals and angsty lyrics. Not to mention, their demo Turkish Bathhouse carries the same high-energy as their live performance (and is up for name-your-own-price on Bandcamp).
