EAST LANSING —  Michigan State coach Mel Tucker wasn’t kidding when he said that the Spartans would examine the transfer portal with a tremendous amount of intensity.

Drew Jordan, a senior transfer defensive end from Duke, became the fourth player that Tucker has landed via the transfer portal on Thursday. Jordan entered the portal on Dec. 15. He will have one year of eligibility left.

Jordan is an experienced defensive end who compiled 3.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and 35 tackles this season for the Blue Devils. Overall, Jordan compiled 10 sacks and 102 tackles during his time at Duke. He has also started the past three seasons at defensive end and has played in 48 career games. 

Jordan, a four-star recruit out of Suwanee, Georgia, was rated by 247Sports as the No. 31 overall prospect in Georgia as well as the No. 316 prospect in the country within the 2017 recruiting class.  He originally signed his National Letter of Intent to play at Duke on Feb. 1, 2017. 

Jordan also was a high school teammate of current Spartan running back Connor Heyward. 

Before choosing Duke, he held offers from schools such as Arkansas, Boston College, California, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, South Florida and Michigan State. 

With Jordan’s addition, the MSU defensive line is beginning to look like the team’s deepest position. Despite losing Naquan Jones and perhaps redshirt senior Drew Beesley, the Spartans will return starting defensive tackle Jacob Slade, starting defensive end Jacub Panasiuk and several key rotation players including Jalen Hunt, Dashaun Mallory, Jack Camper and Michael Fletcher. 

Jordan is the fourth transfer player that has a legitimate chance of significantly improving MSU.  He, along with former Temple quarterback Anthony Russo, former Auburn running back Harold Joiner and former Arkansas State offensive tackle Jarrett Horst, all have a strong chance of starting next season.
