EAST LANSING— No.22 Michigan State men’s tennis hits the road once again this weekend as they travel to Idaho to take on the Boise State Broncos.
The Spartans will continue to look to get back into the win column after dropping their two matches last week against No. 16 Tennessee, 4-3 as well as falling to Clemson, 5-2. That makes it three losses in a row as MSU now sits at 4-3 on the season.
The Spartans earned their points against Clemson from singles wins by freshman Matthew Forbes in straight sets, both 6-2. Senior Max Sheldon bounced back and received the Spartans’ other point in the match, winning in two sets as well, winning 6-4 and 6-3.
Forbes was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week this past Wednesday, making it the first time in history for a Spartan to receive the award that was implemented this season. Junior Ozan Baris retained his No. 8 ITA individual ranking this past week as he sits at 13-4 on the season.
For Boise State, they sit at 3-1 on the year, winning three in a row after dropping their first match of the season to No. 5 Virginia 4-2. Their past wins came against VCU, Idaho State and Eastern Washington. The Broncos will look to keep their winning streak alive.
Boise State redshirt senior Jett Middleton will be the biggest test for MSU as he won his last two singles matches for the Broncos. He’ll lead the charge for a fierce Boise State team.
The Broncos do have their work cut out for them. They’ll look to make a national statement with Spartans coming into town. Baris and the Spartans will look to come away with a win on Sunday afternoon.
MSU and Boise State will square off at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho at 1 p.m.
