Club Soccer Advances to Round of 16

After two victories, the Spartans finished on top of their group and will move on to knockout play.

Game One: Michigan State 3, California Polytechnic 1

The Spartans started out strong, taking the lead in the first half when Ryan Jacobs assisted Eke Ofili for an early goal.

A.J. Kalina added another goal in the second half to make it 2-0 MSU.  Cal Poly scored on a penalty to make it a one goal game. Ron Dewberry added the clinching goal later in the game.

Game Two: Michigan State 2, Delaware 0

MSU returned to the pitch for a night game against a very physical Delaware team.  After a scoreless first half, Brad Sauchak set the tone for the Spartans scoring the first goal of the game. Later in the second half, Tim Stadler put one in the back of the net from 30 yards out to seal the deal for MSU.

Friday’s games have been canceled due to rain, so the Spartans will face Kansas State in the Round of 16 on Saturday morning.
