Strong Showing in Evanston for Women’s Tennis

This past weekend, the Michigan State University women’s tennis team left their friendly confines of East Lansing for the first time this season.

The team set off to Evanston, Ill. for the Wildcat Invite, looking to build on the success they experienced at the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational a couple weekends ago.

A total of nine other schools competed throughout the weekend including host Northwestern. The Spartans gained momentum throughout the weekend and rounded out the invite with 16 singles match victories and 10 doubles match victories.

Thus far this season, MSU has leaned on its young roster. The sophomore duo of Erin Faulkner and Athena Trouillot kicked off the weekend with an 8-5 doubles victory over Caroline Aleck and Olivia Myers of Western Michigan.

The freshmen pair of Allie Baer and Catherine Parenteau capped off the weekend with another doubles victory, this time against Rheeya Doshi and Jillian Rooney of Northwestern by a score of 8-1.

The Spartans continue their season next weekend at the Akron Invitational, where they will compete with host Akron, Cornell and West Virginia.
