Football recruiting: Five-star Dobbs headed to East Lansing

After seeing four-star quarterback Dwan Mathis flip his commitment to Ohio State on Sunday, Michigan State landed a huge commitment Monday evening from Devontae Dobbs, a five-star offensive tackle from Belleville, Mich.

Dobbs made the announcement official Monday evening, posting it from his Twitter account. Dobbs is the 11th commit in the 2019 class, a class that’s still shaping up to be a solid one for head coach Mark Dantonio.

The 6-foot-4, 302-pound offensive tackle plays his high school football at Belleville H.S. and is rated the No. 13 overall prospect and the No. 2 player in the state of Michigan, according to 24/7 Sports. Dobbs is also rated as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation.

MSU had to hold off offers from Ohio State, USC, Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Auburn and Florida State to get a commitment from its first five-star prospect since defensive lineman Malik McDowell committed back in 2014.

The Spartans will continue to add to their 2019 recruiting class, which ranks No. 25 in the country and No. 7 in the Big Ten.
