Spartans Return Home to Host the Gophers

Michigan State is on a role the past few games and it looks like that streak may continue.

The No. 23 Michigan State Spartans (18-8, 10-3) return home to host the Minnesota Gophers (17-10, 6-7) on Monday.

Spartans Hold off the Badgers

Michigan State defeated Wisconsin, 76-66, for the sixth-straight time, putting them a game and a half behind first place Penn State in the Big Ten standings. The No. 23 Spartans are now 18-8 overall and 10-3 in conference play.

The offense was balanced with six Spartans scoring in double digits. Becca Mills led the team with 15 points. Tori Jankoska followed with 14 points along with season-highs of seven assists and five steals. Aerial Powers added 13 points and eight rebounds. Annalise Pickrel scored 12 points and Jasmine Hines and Brandais Agee came off the bench scoring 10 points each.

MSU on the Road to Wisconsin

The Lady Spartans played in their annual pink game for breast cancer awareness Saturday night. After coming off a dominating win against Ohio State, 70-49, No. 23 Michigan State (17-8, 9-3) heads to Madison, Wis. to play Wisconsin (10-15, 3-10).

There are only two weeks left in the Big Ten regular season, before the Big Ten Tournament. Currently the MSU women’s basketball team is tied for second with Nebraska at 9-3, with only four games left to play. Penn State leads the Big Ten with an 11-2 conference record.

The Pact – #18 – 2/18/14

This week on The Pact, the panel shifts their attention away from men’s basketball and on to the women’s basketball squad. Fino, Faith and Harry dissect the Spartans’ season thus far and look ahead to the team’s next few games against Wisconsin and Minnesota.

In the second portion of the show, Fino moderates as Lou and Austin analyze the USA men’s hockey team and their chances in the Olympic tournament. The three panelists debate styles of play and give predictions on how the tournament will shake out.

The Spartans hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday afternoon where they won 70-49.

The Breslin Center was filled with pink in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. With a crowd of over 10,600, the largest of the season, the game held a high level of energy all night.

MSU Looks to Capture Season Series against Ohio State

Saturday evening No. 25 MSU will be hosting the Ohio State Buckeyes. In the last meeting between the conference rivals the Spartans won 82-68.

In the Spartans last game they lost to No.22 Nebraska, 76-56. Aerial Powers led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds. MSU shot 39.3 percent (22-of-56) in that the game, which is below their season average of 45 percent.

Spartans Remain on the Road to Take on No. 22 Cornhuskers

The No. 24 Spartans are looking to win their sixth-straight Big Ten road game in Lincoln, Neb. against the No. 22 Cornhuskers tomorrow.

When the teams last met on Jan. 9 in East Lansing, the Spartans never trailed and won the game 70-57. They were able to hold the Huskers to season lows in points and field goal percentage (30.8 percent).

Spartans Stay Undefeated on the Road

After their 69-53 victory over Illinois on Wednesday, the No. 24 Michigan State Spartans have won their first five Big Ten road games for the first time in program history.

Spartans Hit the Road in Hopes to Defeat the Fighting Illini

The No. 24 Spartans will head to Champaign, Ill. to face the Fighting Illini for the second time this season. MSU lost 61-51 when they last met in East Lansing two weeks ago. The Spartans have not lost a Big Ten road game so far and are 7-2 in conference play.

Forward Becca Mills led the Spartans with 17 points in the teams’ last meeting Jan. 23.

Season-High Points for Hines against Purdue

Junior Jasmine Hines’ change in mindset led to her scoring a season-high against the No. 19 Purdue Boilermakers. The Spartans beat Purdue 89-73.

Hines scored 16 points and collected six rebounds. Redshirt freshman Ariel Powers scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading MSU to victory.

Lady Spartans Get Revenge on No. 19 Purdue

The Spartans avenged themselves in their 89-73 win against No. 19 Purdue. Five of MSU’s players scored in double digits for the second straight game.

Junior Jasmine Hines came off of the bench and went 8-13 from the field. Hines had a season-high of 16 points and also added six rebounds.

Lady Spartans Slide past the Badgers

Five Spartans scored in double digits in their 71-67 win against Wisconsin on Thursday. They are now 6-2 in conference play and remain in second place in the Big Ten.

Guard Kiana Johnson, who missed the last game due to personal issues, came off of the bench and contributed 11 points, four assists and one block. In the last two games she played, she was 2-20 from the field. Tonight she was 4-8.

Spartans Take on Badgers

The Spartans (13-7, 5-2) will take on the Wisconsin Badgers (9-10, 2-5) tonight at 7 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State have not had much trouble with the Badgers in recent seasons and tonight should not be any different. Last year, Jasmine Thomas and Kiana Johnson led the Spartans to a 54-48 victory.

Lady Spartans Bounce Back

After losing two straight games, the Spartans found their way back to winning, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes, 82-68. MSU has won their first four Big Ten road games for the second time in program history.

Freshman Tori Jankoska led MSU and also tied her season-high with 25 points. Fifteen of those points came from three-pointers. She only missed twice from behind the arc.

Spartans Back on Road to Take on Buckeyes

After back-to-back losses at home, the Michigan State Spartans (12-7, 4-2) go back on the road to play Ohio State (13-9, 3-3).

The Spartans’ last meeting with Ohio State ended in a 67-60 loss.  They have not beaten the Buckeyes since February 21, 2010.

Becca Mills Shines despite Loss

The Michigan State Spartans (12-7, 4-2) were defeated by the Illinois Fighting Illini (9-10, 2-4) Thursday night, 61-51. This is the Spartans’ second loss in a row. Although MSU had a disappointing night against Illinois, there was a player that managed to make her presence known.

Junior forward Becca Mills started the game off for the Spartans with their first seven points in the first four minutes of the game. Mills finished with 17 points, four rebounds and 5-5 from the free throw line. Mills’ points allowed her to be tied for the most in a Big Ten game this season.
