Spartans Survive Columbia

In what was supposed to be a victory lap following a win against the No. 1 team in the nation, Michigan State struggled to defeat the Columbia University Lions 62-53 Friday night.

The Spartans started the game on a 9-0 run, but struggled to get out in transition for much of the game, with scoring on the fast break. State only had 10 fast break points on the game. Columbia led 26-22 at the half. Read More…

The Pact – #5 – 11/11/13

MSU women’s field hockey took home the Big Ten Championship Sunday and claimed a position in the NCAA Tournament.

Junior forward Allie Ahern visits the show and discusses her team’s success to this point and previews the NCAA tournament, which the Spartans begin Wednesday, in East Lansing.

Lupe Izzo, wife of MSU Head Basketball Coach Tom Izzo, gives her opinion of this year’s Spartan Squad, provides her insight on the Spartan head coach, and shares some personal stories from her years in the MSU family.

Spartans Win Tune-Up

Michigan State won their first regular season game of the 2013 season 98-56 against McNeese State University.

The Spartans got off to a slow start in the first half with McNeese St. briefly leading in the first four minutes of the half. Michigan State’s offense started working when the team started scoring on transition. They scored 40 fast break points in the game. Read More…

Spartans Finish Exhibition Season Strong

Michigan State won their final exhibition game of the season, 83-45, against Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Monday.

Gary Harris led all scorers with 21 points. Keith Appling scored only three points in the game, but contributed 11 assists with no turnovers.

MSU shot lights out from behind the arc, finishing the game with almost 47 percent shooting from three-point range. Despite the score, Tom Izzo was displeased with the team’s ability to finish. Read More…

Opinion: Branden Dawson is the Spartans’ X-Factor

Branden Dawson’s freshmen season ended during the final regular season game of the year versus Ohio State, when he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament. That injury changed the trajectory of Dawson’s career. Instead of spending the summer of his sophomore year developing his game or possibly preparing for his rookie season in the NBA, he was forced to rehab his knee.

Spartans Smoke Lakers in Exhibition Opener

Michigan State basketball won their first exhibition game of the 2013-2014 season, 101-52, against the Grand Valley State Lakers Tuesday night at the Breslin Center.

Led by Keith Appling’s 17 points, the Spartans used their superior shooting and size to dominate the Lakers. MSU shot nearly 62 percent from the field and 58 percent from three point. Read More…

Shocking Izzo Entrance at Midnight Madness

Music, flames, and fans filled the Breslin Center on Friday, as the MSU men’s and women’s basketball teams symbolically kicked off their season with the annual Midnight Madness.

“The atmosphere of Midnight Madness is just really fun. Everyone is really excited for the all players to be introduced,” said Jessica Baarck, an MSU sophomore waiting in line with her friends. “When Izzo and Suzy Merchant talk, it’s just really exciting and everyone always has a good time.” Read More…
