Lions Offense Prevails Over Jets

The Detroit Lions prevailed in Week 4 against the New York Jets 24-17, with the Lions’ offense stepping up in place of the defense.

MetLife stadium will go without a win for yet another week. The Lions dominated the offensive side of the ball scoring 24 points on 360 yards in their 34 minutes of possession.

Matthew Stafford completed 24-34 passes with two touchdowns. One of these touchdowns was a rushing touchdown in the red zone by Stafford, proving his playmaking abilities. Stafford limited his mistakes to zero turnovers in the face of an overwhelming Jets defensive line.

Giving up four sacks shows that the offensive line is currently the weakness. Lions fans should not be worried since that is what the second best defensive line could produce. The Jets’ defensive ranking should be in question after allowing over 22 points per game in the first four games of the season.

Alex Henery went 1-2 for field goals, both over 50 yards, in his debut as the new Lions kicker — already a supreme upgrade from rookie kicker Nate Freese.

The 2014 No. 10 pick in the draft, Eric Ebron, caught his first touchdown of the year, going for three receptions and 34 yards.

Offseason Super Bowl pickups, Golden Tate and James Ihedigbo, both played big on Sunday. Tate finished with a team-high eight receptions for 116 yards. Ihedigbo, starting in his first game with the Lions, had five tackles and one momentum swing of a sack that forced Jets quarterback, Geno Smith, to fumble and give the ball back to Detroit.

Darius Slay contributed for the fourth week in a row on defense with an interception and limiting the Jets’ receivers to only one receiving touchdown.

The Lions will look to continue to prove their worth on both sides of the ball next Sunday, as they defend their division-leading 3-1 record at home against the Buffalo Bills and their old coach Jim Schwartz.
