Powers breaks double-double Record As Spartans Beat Illini

The No. 20 ranked Michigan State women’s basketball team routed  Illinois Wednesday night 71-43 in Champaign.

Leading the way for the Spartans was junior Aerial Powers who finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds. After putting up those numbers, Powers past former Spartans Mary Kay Ictyrne for most double-doubles in school history.

Powers played a strong game as she had 15 points and seven rebounds in the third quarter alone. The 15 points in the quarter were the points that propelled her past Ictyrne. At this point in the game, MSU was only up three points.

The fourth quarter was a  different story as the Spartans scored  seven straight points before the Illini hit a jumper. The Illinois scoring would not last much longer as MSU went on a 20-0 run to close the game.

Quietly playing well was junior Tori Jankoska, who had 14 points and 11 rebounds. This was her third straight game of scoring in double figures.

The win for the Spartans pushes them to 21-7 overall and 12-5 in the Big Ten. Their final game is senior night Saturday against No. 5 Ohio State. The game is at 2 p.m. and can be found on BTN.
