No Spartans Selected in Draft after Dennard, Several Sign with teams as Undrafted Free Agents

The 2013 season was the most successful season Michigan State football has had in decades. The senior class is arguably the best in the team’s history. They won more games than any other senior class, including two Big Ten Championships, 3 three consecutive bowl games and were the 100th Rose Bowl Game champions. With all that talent and experience, several Spartan seniors hoped to hear their name called at the 2014 NFL draft.

Most of them did not get the call.

Darqueze Dennard was the only Spartan taken in the draft.  He was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 24th pick on Friday evening. Other hopeful draft picks out of MSU were linebackers Max Bullough and Denicos Allen, safety Isaiah Lewis and wide receiver Bennie Fowler. Although Dennard was the only one picked up by an NFL team in the draft, several Spartans signed with teams as undrafted free agents.

DB Isaiah Lewis: Signed with the Cincinnati Bengals

LB Denicos Allen: Signed with the Carolina Panthers

LB Max Bullough: Signed with the Houston Texans

WR Bennie Folwer: Signed with Denver Broncos

DL Tyler Hoover: Signed with the Indianapolis Colts

OL Fou Fonoti: Signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

OL Dan France:  Signed with Cincinnati Bengals

DT Micajah Reynolds: Signed with the New Orleans Saints

The latest Spartan to get a shot in the NFL is LB Kyler Elsworth, defensive MVP of the Rose Bowl.  He’ll join the Washington Redskins at their mini-camp this summer.
