EAST LANSING— On Wednesday, MSU quarterback Theo Day became the ninth Spartan to enter the transfer portal since the conclusion of last Saturday’s spring game.  During practice, he was slotted behind quarterbacks Anthony Russo, Payton Thorne Noah Kim and newcomer Hampton Fay.

Day, a Dearborn native, was a high three-star recruit during his playing career at Dearborn Divine Child. 247Sports ranked Day as the No. 7 overall recruit in Michigan and the No. 377 prospect in the nation within the 2018 recruiting class. He initially committed to MSU over others schools, including Kentucky, Georgia, Boston College, Minnesota, Missouri and Ole Miss.

Overall, Day appeared in two games during his time at MSU against Western Michigan and Penn State in 2019. In his appearance against the Nittany Lions, he played five snaps and completed two passes for 12 yards. He also completed five passes for 52 yards in the 2018 Green-White spring game.

Day follows defensive ends DeAri Todd and Jasiyah Robinson, defensive tackle Chris Mayfield, tight end Tommy Guajardo, long snapper Bryce Eimer, offensive lineman Justin Stevens and kicker Jack Olsen, who have all entered the transfer portal since the conclusion of the spring game.

The Spartans also have safety Dominique Long, running back Andre Welch and wide receiver Javez Alexander in the portal.  Day is the 25th overall player for MSU to enter the portal, the highest mark in the Big Ten.
