EAST LANSING — Michigan State University conducted a total of 197 COVID-19 tests on student-athletes and staff members from Aug. 29 – Sept. 6. Out of those 197, 168 are student-athletes, with the remaining 29 being staff members. A total of 12 student-athletes tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of testing with no staff members testing positive.

This is a big jump in positive tests from the five total student-athletes that had tested positive over the last two weeks combined.

Since Michigan State’s testing program started in June, there have been more than 1,240 tests conducted on student-athletes with 48 total positive results, as well as over 300 tests on staff members with only five positives.

Those with positive test results will continue to have daily check-ins with the athletic training staff while they remain in isolation. Further testing and follow-ups are required before the individuals can return to any level of workouts.
