EAST LANSING– On Monday, June 15, Michigan State tested 124 student-athletes as part of the return-to-play initiative launched by the NCAA.  Out of the 124 student-athletes who were tested, one MSU athlete tested positive.

Under protocol established by the university, those who test positive will be quarantined and isolated for a period of 10-14 days.   Athletes who test positive will be subjected to daily check-ins with athletic training staff and medical personnel.  A student-athlete must have two consecutive negative tests before being cleared to return. Further testing and physician approval may also be required for those who test positive.

Student-athletes who tested negative during the initial round of testing will undergo a second round of tests on June 22.  Even those who didn’t test positive for the virus during the initial round of testing must have two consecutive negative tests before resuming workouts.

In addition, one student-athlete decided not to report to campus after testing positive at home. The MSU athlete is recovering at home and will return to campus once they have made a full recovery.

No athletic department staff members tested positive during the initial round of testing.
