It’s been quite the week on the recruiting trail for Mark Dantonio and Michigan State. After the Spartans watched Dwan Mathis flip to Ohio State late Sunday afternoon, they’ve picked up six commitments since then, including five-star tackle Devontae Dobbs, who committed on Monday.
Michigan State added Chicago native Alante Brown late Thursday night before getting a commitment from running back Brandon Wright 30 minutes after that.
According to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, Brown, a three-star athlete, ranks No. 24 overall in the state of Illinois. While he plays quarterback at Chicago Simeon High School, Brown could end up as a quarterback, running back or wide receiver when he gets to East Lansing next fall.
Wright will join a crowded running back room for the class of 2019. Wright, also a three-star, is rated the No. 50 prospect in the state of Ohio per 247Sports’ Composite rankings. Wright joins the Spartans’ 2019 class as the fourth player hailing from the state of Ohio.
Friday was a huge day for Dantonio and his staff. The day was started by three-star Bolingbrook, Ill. RB Anthony Williams committing via his Twitter account. Williams, a 6-foot, 190-pound tailback, chose MSU over offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
Several hours later, West Bloomfield’s Trae Mosley was the next to give Dantonio his commitment for 2019. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver had offers from Oregon, Michigan, Cincinnati and several others. According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Mosley is the No. 21 rated prospect in the state of Michigan and No. 102 wide receiver in the country as a three-star recruit.
Rounding out the impressive day was a commitment from Flint native Michael Fletcher. Outside of commitments from four-star DB Julian Barnett and Dobbs, this might be the next biggest win for MSU. Fletcher, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end, picked the Spartans after receiving offers from Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and others.
Fletcher was on MSU’s radar for a long while, but it was perceived that Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines were the leaders to land the talented edge rusher. Fletcher will give MSU a much-needed boost on the edge, and given his success at the high-school level, has garnered comparisons to former Spartan end Shilique Calhoun.
That makes five MSU commitments in the last two days, and six in the past week. After the successful week, MSU now has 16 commits tabbed for its 2019 class, coming in as the No. 17 recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports’ Composite team rankings.
