Cornerback Ezra Robinson to Transfer

In an unexpected, yet understandable announcement by Michigan State Friday, redshirt sophomore Ezra Robinson previously stated that he received a release from his scholarship and is exploring his transfer options.

Robinson, who was redshirted in 2012 and played largely on special teams in 2013, was expected to be in the mix for the corner slot previously owned by Jim Thorpe Award winner Darqueze Dennard last year.

However, sophomore Darian Hicks won that competition in spring practices and defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said junior Arjen Colquhoun was not far behind in the competition.

Combine that with another contender, sophomore Jermaine Edmondson, Robinson appeared to be ready to play largely on special teams again this season.

On a defense as stellar as Michigan State’s, sometimes talented players can get left behind. Robinson had an interception and a pass break-up in the spring game, yet was caught up in a mix of young and talented corners fighting for playing time.

Robinson, a Florida native, has not yet specified what his transfer options are.
