Eric Ebron Signs with Lions to Wrap Up Rookie Deals

The Detroit Lions head into training camp with the 2014 rookie draft class signed under contract.

Eric Ebron, the playmaking tight end of the North Carolina Tarheels, capped the pen for all Lions rookies Friday when he signed an estimated $2.2 million, four-year deal.

But where did they get the cap room for a signing like this?

Prior to this, the Lions only had approximately $1 million to spare in cap space. This, of course, could be blamed on the failure of extending Ndamukong Suh’s contract before the start of minicamp.

In order to create the necessary cap room, the Lions released veteran cornerback Chris Houston.

If the glass is half empty, it is probably because Suh has not reached a deal yet and fans are wondering if he is even passionate about playing in Detroit anymore. If the glass is half full, it is probably because all of the Lions draft picks are signed under contract.

And, the team, overall, looks healthy and ready to enter a tough training camp with new head coach Jim Caldwell.
