The second and final day of the Spartans’ East Coast trip did not end as hoped for the women’s rowing team.

The team fell to No. 5 Brown and No. 9 Princeton on the Carnegie River in Princeton, N.J.

The Spartans came in third in all but the novice eight race in which the Spartans beat Brown by about a length of open water, coming in second behind Princeton. The Spartans took third in the varsity eight race, falling two lengths behind Princeton.

Both of the fours races saw Brown come in first place, Princeton in second and MSU trailing in last. Brown finished the first race at 7:46.8, defeating Princeton by 12 seconds and nearly 30 seconds ahead of MSU. In the much closer second fours race, Brown edged out Princeton by two seats with MSU trailing the Tigers by 10 seconds.

Michigan State will take the next week off to prepare to host Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin for a double-dual on April 12 in East Lansing.
