Opinion: Ihedigbo Confirms He Is Heading to Detroit

Former Ravens safety James Ihedigbo will be reunited with his old defensive coordinator Teryl Austin this offseason after his deal with the Detroit Lions is finalized.

The free agent safety Ihedigbo tweeted Monday night that he is officially becoming a Lion.

Notice he changed his profile picture to a Lion as well.

This signing will be another well crafted patch-job done by the Lions’ management this offseason. Ihedigbo will be joining the Lions coming off of a stellar 101-tackle season with two forced fumbles and two interceptions.

Durability is not a concern either. Ihedigbo has started 62 of his last 64 games. Ihedigbo just turned 30 this past December, so he still has some gas in the tank and brings championship experience along with him.

This signing will probably cap off the Lions’ very productive offseason. This year so far, the Lions have signed a great No. 2 wide receiver in Golden Tate, re-signed tight end Brandon Pettigrew, extended running back Joique Bell’s contract and quite a few depth fillers like defensive end Andre Fluellen and fullback Jed Collins.

The Lions are on their way to ‘winning’ this offseason, the only thing that stands in the way would be the inevitable contract extension of Ndamukong Suh.

Since the Lions have addressed all serious needs this offseason they will have a more leisurely approach to the draft. The Lions will have less pressure on themselves when deciding on a draft pick and will have a more reasonable chance of the ‘trade up and draft Sammy Watkins’ scenario.

Anything can happen at this point, because the Lions are sitting nicely in the NFC North.
