Wrestling Closes out Big Ten Season on the Road

Michigan State’s wrestling team looks to close out the Big Ten dual season on a high note this weekend.

The Spartans (5-9, 0-6) will go up against No. 13 Ohio State (8-4, 3-4) on Friday and Indiana (8-8-1, 0-3) on Sunday. The Friday dual is being hosted by OSU at Massillon Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio at 7 p.m. On Sunday, MSU heads to Bloomington, Ind. to take on the Hoosiers at 2 p.m.

MSU is coming off a deflating home loss to No. 1 Penn State last Friday. Ohio State lost on the road to Michigan last Friday as well, but rebounded with a victory over Purdue on Monday. Indiana lost to both Purdue and Minnesota last week.

The Buckeyes have six ranked wrestlers according to the InterMat Top 20 rankings. Third-ranked Logan Stieber at 141 pounds is the Buckeyes’ highest ranked wrestler.

The most notable match of the dual Sunday will be a rematch at heavyweight with the Spartans No. 7 Mike McClure wrestling against the Hoosier’s No. 4 Adam Chalfant. Chalfant narrowly edged McClure for first place at the MSU Open in November.

Michigan State will return home for the final home dual of the season next Friday, Feb. 14. The Spartans will host Olivet College at 12 p.m. in Jenison Field House.
