Back Strong After Christmas Break

Defense led the MSU women’s basketball team to a 50-point win over the Colgate Raiders on Sunday, Dec. 29 at the Breslin Center.

Tori Jankoska overcame her slump and led MSU with 25 points. Seventeen of her points were scored in the first half. All but one player on the Spartan roster scored at least one point. The team shot 50 percent from the field.

The Spartans led the Raiders 44-21 at the end of the first half and continued to dominate in the second. Their energy never declined.

“It was nice to see our kids kind of keep their foot on the gas basically,” coach Suzy Merchant said.

“They did a nice job. I don’t think they got too undisciplined even when we had different subs and walk-ons in there.”

MSU’s defense held Colgate’s leading scorers, Lauryn Kobiela and Carole Harris, under their 11.8 and 11.1 points per game average. Kobiela had six and Harris had five.

The final score was 96-46.

The Spartans will head to Minnesota for their first Big Ten game of the season on Saturday, Jan. 4. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. ET.
