Wings Hold off Bruins

In the Detroit Red Wings’ second contest of the season against the Boston Bruins, the Wings came out with a bit more determination than they had in the game prior. With a 3-2 victory over the Bruins, fans can only assume that Babcock’s move to bench Jimmy Howard (due to injury) and play Jonas Gustavsson was smart considering he played well. The leaders are continuing to step up and lead throughout the duration of games. With newcomers Stephen Weiss and Daniel Alfredsson both collecting points in the second period, the Red Wings are putting their threats together.

Defensively and offensively, the Red Wings flat out beat the Bruins in a hard-fought game by both teams. With two goals being let up by Gustavsson and a whopping five goals let up by Howard in the previous game, anyone can see the difference in play.

The only issue that was seen during this game was in the penalty-taking column, yet again. This has been an issue for the Wings players thus far this season. With the start of the season jitters out, and an established attack on offense and a set defensive strategy, the Red Wings just have to fine-tune their fundamental strategy. Staying out of the box is a hard task with bruisers like Niklas Kronwall and Jonathan Ericsson in the game, but to gain a victory in the NHL, staying five-on-five is what needs to be strived for.

Winning a game in your own division is always a great thing, now the Wings just need to keep up the confidence and continue developing.
