Lions Fall Short 27-24 to Bengals

A last-second field goal by Cincinnati Bengals’ Mike Nugent sealed the deal for the Bengals, as they stunned the Lions at Ford Field Sunday.

Lions Wide Receiver Calvin “Megatron” Johnson came through with the play of the game, with an incredible catch in triple coverage to tie the game at 24 in the fourth quarter. Johnson also had an impressive 27-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter, but, in the end, his stand-out performance was not enough for the Lions to come out on top.

In the first quarter, right after the Lions tied the game at 7 when Stafford hooked up with Brandon Pettigrew for a touchdown, DT Ndamukong Suh recovered a fumble and ran in for a touchdown.  However, the touchdown was negated by an offsides penalty.  The Lions also had a field goal blocked in the second quarter.

On paper, the game was just as close as the score reflected.  There were no turnovers for either team and a total of ten penalties for 80 yards were just about evenly distributed.  View the complete box score here.

The Lions are now in a three-way tie for the top spot in the NFC North with the Bears and Packers, as they hope to bounce back next week at home vs. Dallas.
