Spanish Metal From Lore Lord

As alluded to months back, I acquired a nice trove of obscure metal from Lore Lord of Sauron and his distro Dystopian Dogs. One of those albums was a neat collection of Spanish metal, Spanish Steel Attack Vol. 1. I love obscure collections like this because it’s a quick and dirty peer into the underground of the international scene of metal. Forget Babbel or Rosetta Stone, if you’re trying to learn Spanish, just listen to a bunch of Spanish metal collections. And Brujeria.

‘Tis the season! Of end-of-the-year lists of course, what else? It’s that time when mainstream publications compile a list of albums only from bands any average metalhead knows and ranks them in arbitrary order. It’s a trap that’s easy to fall into so I won’t begrudge anyone for doing so. That said, the Hourz team had the privilege of listening to over 1000+ new promo materials this past year. Most of them wasn’t so good. Some were just an affront to not just our senses, but on everything that metal represents *cough* VENOM *cough*. But listening to all the gems from 2017 was a joy.

Next week the Hourz team is celebrating 2017 by playing our favorites throughout the year. We at Hourz have incredibly diverse tastes that make for great banter backstage but also a unique end-of-the-year list of favorites. As well-documented on air, Terrorsquid and I have a complete contrast in taste in metal (He ranked Power Trip incredibly low on his list; I love Power Trip!) but this allows us to capture a large set of metal that otherwise won’t be recognized. For reference, our top 10’s only share 1 album. There’s something for everyone to celebrate for 2017, and next week’s show will represent that. Stay tuned…

Goodbye, Farewell (I’ll See You In Hell)

This is my last live show! Before bidding farewell, I want to share an anecdote with you all: before I joined Hourz, there was a couple of years where my love for metal hit a slump. My listening habits became circular, I only listened to “the same ole shit” and I wasn’t discovering anything new anymore. Part of this was because I just didn’t know anybody to share my passion for metal. There’s only so much one can discover on their own when they think they know what they like. Then Bacchus reached out to me in physics class and told me about Hourz. Upon listening to a few shows, I began discovering new music that was out of my comfort zone again, stuff that I would never have discovered myself. But most of all I started to love metal again. I joined the show soon after and the rest is history.

I’ll miss the banter, listening to tons of free music, and expressing my love (and hate of terrible) metal. It means so much to me to share this wonderful gift to you all and actually appreciate it. To all the listeners who listen every week to those who just stumbled upon this show on a night drive, thank you for listening and keeping metal on the airwaves.  I will cherish the memories and the metal from this show for the rest of my life.
