Music Almanac | December 8th

Music+Almanac+%7C+December+8th

December 8th was truly a series of unfortunate events in the music industry.

Beginning in the 1960’s, a dear friend of Elvis Presley, Fabian, paid a visit to Graceland. Little did he know, Elvis would be needing his pants after ripping his own demonstrating karate.

Three years later Frank Sinatra Jr. was kidnapped, and released after his ransom of $240,000 was paid. Six years after that, Jimmy Hendrix was found guilty for possession of heroin and hashish after eight hours of jury deliberation. Apparently, Hendrix claiming he “outgrew” drugs wasn’t a very effective defense.

Skipping ahead slightly, December 8th, 1980 was a dark day in the music industry. John Lennon was shot to death by Mark Chapman, whom he autographed an album for earlier that day. In 1998, the FBI opened a 1300 page file on Frank Sinatra to the public. The files were pertaining to his early connections with the Communist Party in Hollywood.

Even though December 8th may have been a dark day in the music world, at least we know now that even Elvis Presley has ripped his pants doing something silly.
