The amount of talent on “The Last Huzzah!” is ridiculous. 10 years after release, its shine hasn’t diminished at all. Each rapper lives up to their name or exceeds it: there are no weak verses, no head-scratching bars — the beat is perfect for rattling off all kinds of flows, all kinds of wordplay. As a result, the fire never stops raining.

It’s not too unreasonable to claim that each rapper on this track delivered one of their all-time best verses here. El-P’s verse may actually be his best, which is a significant claim considering the rap legend’s elite discography, but no one has ever made counting to 16 so cool. There are too many quotables all over. If I were to list every bar that made me laugh or made me crinkle my face as to say “that’s nasty,” then it’d probably end up being half the song. I suppose I’ll mention one just for fun: being quite the “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell” fan, I greatly enjoyed enjoyed Heems of Das Racist’s bar about their hit song, which blends it with a Raekwon lyric on Wu-Tang Clan’sC.R.E.A.M.

“I’m at the Pizza Hut, I’m at the Taco Bell/

The combination made my eyes bleed.”

The music video for this song is also incredible. So incredible that it’s removed from YouTube every three months or so until someone re-uploads it again. At the time of writing, it’s up in all it’s weird, hilarious glory. There’s a lot of stupid dancing, a lot of Lucky Charms and a lot of El-P’s mustache. Even though Killer Mike’s not on the track, he stops by for a nice little cameo too. It all matches the song just perfectly.

In my opinion, the only other song from the past 10 years that blends talent as well as this is “Really Doe” by Danny Brown, featuring Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar and Earl Sweatshirt — This Danny Brown guy certainly seems to be good at the whole rapping thing, huh? If you love “Really Doe” or Danny Brown or any of the other artists on “The Last Huzzah!” but haven’t heard this, I think you might just fall in love.
