EAST LANSING— MSU’s 2022 football recruiting class is rapidly expanding.

On Friday afternoon, Knoxville, Tennessee, native Shannon Blair became the 11th overall 2022 commit for Mel Tucker and company. The three-star Blair currently plays both wide receiver and cornerback for Knoxville West High School.

According to 247Sports, Blair is the No. 32 overall prospect in Tennessee and the No. 72 overall prospect within the “athlete” category in the nation. His most likely position at the next level is cornerback as MSU cornerbacks coach Travares Tillman and defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton were Blair’s primary points of contact during the recruiting process.

Overall, Blair, who visited East Lansing on June 4-6, held 12 Division I offers from schools such as Purdue, Duke, Memphis, Virginia, Wake Forest, Liberty, Middle Tennessee State and Arkansas State.

With the addition of Blair, MSU’s 2022 class is rated as the No. 28 best in the nation and the No. 6 best in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports.

Currently, all of MSU’s 2022 commits are three-star recruits, with the exception of kicker Jack Stone. However, Dearborn four-star wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr. is currently projected to commit to Michigan State by 247Sports.

The Spartans are also currently in the running for four-star West Bloomfield athlete Dillon Tatum and four-star defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren, the younger brother of current MSU linebacker Ben VanSumeren.
